Liege is the cradle of many immigrant families originated from the South. In 2004, more than 100,000 people, i.e. 10% of the inhabitants of the province, were foreigners. In the city of Liege, the concentration was even higher (16%) with almost 30,000 foreigners. Interestingly, the second generation of these immigrant families often keeps on speaking and even learning the language of their parents.
In 2004, the city of Liege listed more than 11,000 inhabitants with the Italian nationality. The next best represented countries are Morocco, France, Spain and Turkey. One could also find many people from Greece, Holland, China, ...
